The year 1714. Barcelona has been under siege by the Bourbons for months after the Catalans refused to surrender to Philip V. The aristocrat Marianna Copons receives orders from Sister Manuela to meet with a Bourbon officer after being told of a Catalan operation underway to attack Mataró, the headquarters of the Bourbon troops and of the "botifler" traitors. When Marianna meets with the officer, she discovers that the operation was organized by the Bourbons themselves in order to weaken the Catalan Army.
